Nelson Mandela Sculpture  Marco Cianfanelli

In South Africa, Mandela is often known as Madiba, his Xhosa clan name; or as tata (Xhosa: father). Mr Mandela has received more than 250 awards over four decades, including the 1993 Nobel Peace Prize. Inspired from Mandela’s jail time, these charcoal colored prison bars represent a new sculpture that has been made to commemorate 50 years since his famous arrest which resulted in his incarceration for 27 years, most of which was spent on Robben Island South Africa. The sculpture is created from 50 steel columns which now stands on the site where he was captured.
