Until the end of February the Grace Cathedral in San Francisco will be displaying an art installation that has been inspired by stained glass, with ribbons hanging from the arches in the church ceiling equating to a total distance of 20 miles.
Anne Patterson the artist uses various colors for the installation taking reference from stained glass and representing them in the colors used for the ribbons. In total a number of 1000 satin ribbons where used which also equated to a combined distance of 20 miles.
The installation incorporates both music and video projection, allowing the strands to act as a series of light pathways. This is done as a representation of having a direct connection between heaven and earth, in representing the way in which prayers are transported skywards, with the grace of God streaming down.
