Zaha Hadid’s Proposal for Tower with World’s Tallest Atrium

Following a hectic period during which Zaha Hadid stopped a BBC interview and became the first female architect to receive the RIBA Gold Medal Award, her international practice announced the plans to build the Leeza SOHO tower in southwest Beijing, China, home to the “world’s tallest atrium”.

The “gently twisting’ cylindrical tower” will have 46 stories and an atrium of 200 m in height, Architectural Journal reports. The project will provide an underground promenade between the subway station and a public park to the west. A parking area for 480 cars and room for 2,690 bikes will also be included.

The building will use a 3D BIM energy management system that “monitors in real-time environmental control and energy efficiency”.
