RB//IC to represent Egypt in Biennale di Venezia 2016

REFRAMING BACK//IMPERATIVE CONFRONTATIONS to represent Egypt in Biennale di Venezia 2016

Alejandro Aravena’s statement “REPORTING FROM THE FRONT” for the 15th Biennale di Architettura di Venezia invites the national pavilions to share experiences about architectures that through intelligence, intuition, or both of them at the same time, are able to escape the status quo. Presenting stories that, despite the difficulties, they have proven a successful persistence.

It has been announced by the head of Urban Harmony-Egyptian Ministry of Culture that “REFRAMING BACK//IMPERATIVE CONFRONTATIONS” has been selected to represent Egypt at the Biennale di Venezia 2016. The project team led by Architect Ahmad Hilal is composed of Eslam Salem, Gabriele Secchi, Luca Borlenghi and Mostafa Salem is trying to explore various stories of Architecture narrating the difficulties and challenges inside the Egyptian built environment.

RB//IC wanted to go beyond the question of What is the story about? to How was the story written? Considering Reframing Back “stories” where architecture did, is, and will make the change as preexisting conditions even before being a product that contributes to any transformational paradigm within their existing confrontations and challenges.

Through creating an ambient space articulated by a journey inside the pavilion enabling visitors to explore the key figures’ “stories” in a curious way highlighting the successful practice of Architecture opposing its relevant contextual challenges/problems allowing at some particular moments a dialogue between these icons and their static background challenges.

The announcement of the Egyptian Pavilion RB//IC is accompanied by an open call for (Projects and Mapping) that responds to this theme so to be included in the exhibition. The aim is to showcase Projects from Egypt that have contributed (or are contributing) to real transformations where many collective efforts have been evolved as results of a smart perception of architecture abilities inside society, alongside Mapping of transitions’ taxonomies to reveal the confrontations behind those iconic stories and to highlight different contextual challenges.

Projects and Mapping should be formatted in the mentioned guidelines below and to be submitted by 29thof February to [email protected]  By submitting this form you give RB//IC the authorization to use this material in the exhibition.
