FOREST OF LIGHT
Swedish clothing brand, COS has authorized Sou Fujimoto in order to design its installation in Milan for fifth year of its participation, at Via Pietro Mascagni 8 in the annual of Milan design week and at the same time that Salone del Mobile furniture fair starts its work, from 12 to 17 April 2016.
In previous years, the company worked with Nendo and Snarkitecture for designing their installations. Fujimoto was chosen by brand’s team because of his 2013 pavilion, the serpentine gallery- a gridded cloud-like structure used as Cos-sponsored night talks programme. The company was so inspired that also designed and produced a pair of shirts inspired by its cloud-like structure.
Fujimoto’s idea is in adopting the spotlight as homage to Cinema Arti-an old theater in the center of Milan which the installation will take place-and using it as a joining element between fashion, architecture and a conceptual forest of lights.
The imaginary picture of the installation is a creation of flicking cones of lights powered by spotlights above which are on instant changing state. To experience, visitors must move through a curve circulation, seduced by the forest lights. Their interaction with each other defines their change of state and transformation. Under the lights, items of furniture will offer stopping and sitting spaces for the visitors.
