Miami is expected to have a new linear park utilizing the space under the metro railway. Dubbed as the “Underline”, the new project was the idea of the journalist, Meg Daly, and it is similar in concept to New York’s linear park called the “Highline”, and the elevated “Skygardens” in Seoul. Daly, accidentally, once walked under the Metrorail to get to her doctor’s appointment, as she couldn’t drive. She was astonished that she was not feeling that hot while walking down there, although it was summer. That is when the whole idea of the long public strip hit her.

The “Underline” masterplan has been designed by James Corner Field Operations. It will extend from Brickell Avenue, which is a quickly-developing area of the city, to Dadeland, which encompasses a giant shopping center, forming a linear park that is 10-miles in length. The park will also serve as a venue for live art and a public trail. The design paid attention to the enhancement of the currently existing intersections and crosswalks, in addition to providing proper seating, lighting, direction signs, and other useful services. The park whose width fluctuates between 21 to 52 meters ( 70-170 feet), will then be linked to the existing transportation networks and will be an urban expansion for the close neighborhoods.
People can ride their bikes and walk, in addition to enjoying an outdoor gym with a court for basketball, swings for the kids, garage for parking bikes, and a stage for concerts. There will, also, be special tables for games and others for people to sit at, food franchises, and of course greenery.
