COR | Oppenheim Architecture + Design

Rising some 400 feet above the Design District, COR is, in the words of Chad Oppenheim architecture + design, ‘the first sustainable, mixed-use condominium in Miami’. This, while being quite a lofty proclamation, might not be far off the mark. An eye for economy makes this not just another high-tech building. Certainly not just another London ‘Razor’.

The building is constructed as an exoskeleton which preforms a plethora of functions. It is structure and get this, thermal mass! Pretty cool, huh? Haven’t heard that since well, before the Industrial Revolution. Also, the structural skin acts as a housing for wind turbines, shading and enclosure for terraces, as well as open galleries for public gathering on ground level. In addition to wind, COR also extracts energy from its environment through photovoltaics and solar hot water generation. The building’s sustainable aspects are incorporated directly into the architectural identity, allowing them to guide certain design decisions. Sustainability reaches further than skin deep in the overall conception and function of the complex. Enveloped within are pure residential, commercial, fitness, office, as well as live/work spaces- allowing it to fill numerous niches within the community.
