Wooridongin architects have won the Magok Central Squares competition with an integrated design that bridges two major zones. The plaza in question is an important nodal traffic zone that has lines 5, 9, and the Incheon Airport train intersecting.it is also in close proximity to the Han River ecosystem, the Jungang Park, and the Green Area Connectors making it a continuously open space. The architects proposed a bridge to link the Jungang Park and the green area connector while providing a streetscape and an easily recognizable landmark. The pedestrian bridge is an element of great interest. Its exterior skin is composed of solar panels, glass LED lights, and green walls. Making it interactive the solar controlled LED lights react to the passage of pedestrians.A particularity of this sunken part is the composition in layers which add a certain fluidity and dynamism to the design the bridge feeds directly into the terrace of this part, which provides for a sub-structure that serves as high accessibility commercial spaces. The second basement level has a connection to the subway and the train terminal. The architect’s perforated slabs in order to allow for natural lighting and ventilation of these spaces. Eco –friendly elements like terraced planting, awning installations, rainwater catchment facilities, geothermal and solar energy harvesting are incorporated in the design. With all these proposals the square will serve as an integrated nodal activity zone providing for an urban open space facility and a landmark
