Lazzarini Design studio, based in Rome, has revealed the Pangeos, making it the most extensive floating city concept ever constructed in the form of a massive tortoise, which Pangea inspired; a supercontinent existed millions of years ago during ancient Greece and the early middle ages.
Lazzarini Reveals the Unconventional Pangeos Model: The World’s Largest Floating City Ever Built
Lazzarini presents the most innovative idea yet: a vast floating city that resists tradition. According to the Italian design studio, architect Pierpaolo Lazzarini’s vision for a massive vessel structure that could accommodate an entire town gave rise to the idea of a mega yacht in 2009.
The steel hull of Pangeos, which would be 550 meters (1,800 feet) long overall and 610 meters (2,000 feet) wide at its widest point in the wings, would be made up of 30,000 individual cells or cluster bulkheads, making the hull unsinkable. Given a large number of passengers and the variety of cargo it would carry, it had better be.
Pierpaolo Lazzarini estimates that the massive ship would accommodate 60,000 visitors enjoying the ship’s many hotel functions. On board will also be facilities for electric vehicles, helipads and hangars, marinas, beautiful gardens, sports, and health care areas, numerous pools, enclosed transportation infrastructure, and shopping centers.
Thanks to virtually limitless green energy resources, Pangeos can travel uninterruptedly around the rest of the world. Pangeos has 9HTS engines with 16,800 horsepower and can travel at 5 knots (5.7 mph/9.2 kph). The Pangeos’ solar-covered roof with panels will supply enough power to make it a continuously traveling destination that would sail without emissions, a vision of an ideal and exquisite clean future.
Since a project of this scope requires extensive planning and it appears that Lazzarini is still in the early stages, the interior of Pangeos has not yet been fully described. However, the studio has already considered the logistics of building such a ship, with a prediction for a delivery time of eight years and funding of $8 billion.
Although the construction schedule is still far off, if money is not a concern, anyone could contribute to the Pangeos project as early as now. Early in 2023, Lazzarini will introduce the Pangeos yacht into the Metaverse via several NFTs, providing access credentials to digital properties. If the ship is ever built, the same credentials will serve as a deposit for property investment. Participating in a fundraising campaign is another choice.
