Blending at Its Finest: The Liknon Wine Museum Is Now Beautifully Mingled in Greece’s Vineyard

To re-establish a connection between the Metaxa brand and its origins, K studio developed the underground
Liknon wine museum in a 100-year-old Samos vineyard where the sweet muscat grape, a particular ingredient, grows.

Blending at Its Finest: The Liknon Wine Museum Is Now Beautifully Mingled in Greece’s Vineyard

The Liknon wine museum is a prominent landmark in the valley beneath the neighboring village of Vourliotes, thanks to its textured stone walls. According to the architects, the project will highlight Metaxa’s historical roots, closely related to the island’s culture, which has a long history of producing high-quality goods and wine.

Designing the Liknon Museum with “the vine as the central character,” the architects at K-Studio foresaw the building as an adventure through the grapes’ natural surroundings. Instead of being housed in a traditional museum structure, the sightseers are encouraged to wander through and beneath the location where the sweet muscat was first produced. With an interactive experience and several “sensory activations,” the underground interior space focuses on connecting to the Metaxa brand’s origins.

K-Studio designed the Liknon Museum to extend the terraces made of dry stone that are habitat to the plenteous vines. The design aesthetic blends seamlessly into the valley and conveys the enchanting atmosphere of the natural and traditional landscape.

Liknon is a landscape rather than a structure created by the interactive blending of man-made stone walls into the valley. The visitor is taken on a walk voyage around and beneath the birthplace of the vines, engrossed in the subsoil, to get in touch with the roots of the brand through an intimate experience, following the traces of an ancient path that unfolds on successive high peaks held by “Pezoules.”
