Tile Nest House | H&P Architects

In Phu Ly City (province of Ha Nam), the Tile Nest house is in a recently developed urban neighborhood. Due to this region’s closeness to the former cemetery and the notion that graves nearby are deep down, removing the old soil layer before construction was required to dispel that idea.
Following the removal of the old soil layer, this viewpoint contributes to the development of the idea of utilizing the excavated site as a house component, creating particular distinctive features and the potential to use geothermal energy.

Tile Nest House

The home’s name, Tile Nest, conveys the concept of creating a place by fusing the Ancient Pit House’s half-underground location with the Nest’s various small crevices that reach the surface. Combining these two elements gives the house’s construction a distinctive crumpled aspect, with the shell feeling spacious and porous on its exterior.

The exterior shell’s numerous hanging tiles provide the impression that the roof is assembled and that a sunshade is present, as is typical of traditional houses. The middle story is distinguished by varying heights of transitional green balconies, which create beautiful views and assist in controlling the indoor environment.

Although tile has long been a familiar and well-liked building material in Vietnam, Tile Nest House uses it in a novel way to make its impact felt through seeing throughout, interacting, and sensing properties, resulting in a variety of close-up encounters in the space of flower-like patterns from sunlight reflection, wind, and plant scents.
