Centennial Park Pavilion’s Design

The design takes cues from the long and storied past of this Northwest Arkansas location as a farm where chicken coops formerly stood. The Centennial Park Pavilion’s architecture includes references to this historical context. The open joint paneling lets daylight in and gives the building a rural charm, evoking the look of an old barn. Vertical light holes add to the pavilion’s architectural coherence and function as beacons for finding your way throughout the park.

These light wells serve as landmarks for locating one’s way around and provide an interesting aesthetic touch. The pavilion takes its shape from Fayetteville’s famous seven hills while suggesting Millsap Mountain become a part of a new supplementary belt of prominent hills within the enlarged city. This design method helps give the park its unique look and feel while paying homage to the local landscape.
