Earlier this year, Huasen Architects won the Fangda competition, which features their business headquarters complex located in Southern China’s Guangdong Province in the city of Shenzhen. Shenzehn’s location just north of Hong Kong makes it a continuously growing and appealing geographically for large corporations to build their headquarters. As a result, it is home to many amazing innovative buildings. Most notably for the Ping An Finance center, which is the biggest skyscraper under construction in China and the world.

It is clear that the reason why Huasen architects design was chosen as the victor is because its four towers integrated the street level pragmatically into the complex’s design. From the top, the towers appear as though they are stray vertical features shot out from a coil. The coil feature is a designated plaza that acts as a connection to the retail, commercial, hotel, and offices of all four buildings. In addition to its function as a central plaza, as mentioned, it acts as method to direct street traffic through the building. This feature is integral in the design feature due to the predicted 55% of worked who are expected to arrive by bus to work at the building everyday. This building is an excellent example of an integrated pragmatic approach to architectural design that is accommodating to the user.
