A fiery intense welcome awaits the visitors at the Cleveland Public library in form of a literary themed art installation called the Reading Nest. Clad with 10,000 wooden out of which 60% are painted golden giving the installation an erudite glow in the day. The color alludes to the legendary griffin which stand outside the library as stone sculpture and is also known for making its nest of pure gold and protecting it ferociously.
Inspired by the mythology of knowledge, the installation aims to bridge the gap between the community and the traditional symbols of learning like the scholarly tree and the old wise owl by giving them a physical manifestation.Hence creating a place of engagement and interest outside the library to draw people in.
The nest started with a 2” by 4” wooden frame reinforced by steel cables and then was clad with 10000 wooden boards obtained by Cleveland industrial and manufacturing sources as leftovers.Held together only by nails and standing 13” tall and 36” wide, the installation took 5 days and 10 men to complete.
