Light Bridge| Frank Tjepkema

For the third annual Amsterdam Light Festival, the capital of Netherlands will be a celebration of lights, colors and reflections. For the event, Frank Tjepkema (studio TJEP) has created a curve installation along the Amstel in the historical center, named “Light Bridge”.

The interesting part of Light Bridge is the fact that, through its undulating shape and bright lights, placed along the existing bridge, manages to visually change the form that is usually perceived. The artist, Frank Tjepkema, stated that he wanted to not only to bring classic architecture and modern design together, but also wanted to create the “the union of the two worlds – physical and water – and an ode to the special dynamics that take place in the city of Amsterdam“. The free flowing form of the installation is in perfect harmony with the movement of the water, but in contrast with the existing structure, which sharpens the contrast idea from which the concept was born.

The installation creates a magnificent visual illusion through the fact that it has a double reflection – it reflects itself into the water, but also the waves of the water reflect themselves into the lights.
