Aedas Wins Competition to Design a New Resort on the Southern Chinese Island

International architecture firm Aedas has won a competition to design a luxury resort on the southern Chinese Henquin Island in Zhuhai. The Zhuhai Hengqin Tianhu Hotel will be part of the island’s urban transformation plan which is to include a new high-density financial hub. The island’s balmy weather and exquisite nature have influenced the design of the resort which is to lie within the lush green hills overlooking Lake Tian. The designers were, also, inspired by the traditional Lingnan architectural style, which is common in the south of Nanling Mountains. The overhanging sloped roofs are intended to provide a unique hospitality experience that is relevant to the local culture.

The regional architectural style is, also, responsive to the local climate. The traditional sloped roof facilitates rainwater drainage and protects the structure from tropical cyclones. As for the circulation, the visitors will be capable of moving around the resort by means of light modern walkways which seem to be floating, and a cable-car system will be used to transport visitors from the town below up to the mountains.
