Amazingly Realistic Urban Architectural Model by Australian Miniaturist Artist from Basic Materials

Australian artist Joshua Smith is a former stencil artist and a current miniaturist whose work focuses on the urban environment. The self-taught artist’s works tend to capture the little overlooked details, giving them a realistic and quite intriguing character. His 1:20 model of 23 Temple Street in Kowloon, Hong Kong, is a very good demonstrator of the artist’s brilliant handiwork.Smith uses MDF, wood, cardboard, chalk pastels, and spray paint among other materials to create his realistic models of weathered architecture. His model 23 Temple Street model shows the dusty worn out walls and the torn fabric of old awnings. He even goes far as to show the various colors of the thin window frames, the ground floor store signs, and the urban art on the walls, graffiti, stickers, or advertising posters.Smith’s impressive artworks have been on exhibition at fairs in Berlin, Paris, London, New York, Sydney, and Melbourne. His 23 Temple Street Model is currently on display in the VOLTA Art Fair in New York.
