NBBJ’s Biodomes have recently been okayed as a revised addition to Amazon’s Headquarters proposal in Seattle. The proposed landscaping and plantings in ‘Block 19’ bring an organic and social component into the office space. Contextually, it provides an organic green space in the city.
The Biodomes are meant to house different functions, but mainly, they provide outdoor space in the urban environment. The plantings they house speaks to the design formally: producing an organic set of forms. The spherical shapes are meant to induce creativity and collaboration, while connecting the occupants to the landscape that it is nested in.The program incorporates office space as well as retail and more social and public spaces. The park area provides a minimally sheltered pedestrian experience along Lenora Street, a dog park, and a playing field, enhancing the pedestrian experience in the city as well as the office experience within the Biodomes. The Biodomes would offer a rich and refreshing interactive space in the Seattle Headquarters.
