Ayb High School | Storaket Architectural Studio

Ayb High School

This space was designed to put students first, emphasize transparency and communication, and eliminate many of the hierarchies that divide students from staff and faculty, thus building a more collaborative learning environment.

The school incorporates an existing Soviet structure, which kept environmental impact minimal and contributed to the school’s overall emphasis on transformative and creative thinking. Areas of study and leisure are intermingled with one another, and whiteboard-covered walls allow students to play an active role in shaping their environment.

The first floor of the building hosts the common spaces of the school – the cafeteria, kitchen, auditorium, library, and sports hall. Classrooms are on the second and third floors. Floors of the school are connected both visually, with interior balconies that provide views to floors below, and with both an interior and exterior slide. Administrative spaces are glazed and open.
