Balancing Books on Strings with Smallgran Studio’s Xanxan Shelves
Just when you thought Shelves couldn’t get any slimmer, Spanish design studio Smallgran proves you wrong. That is by introducing their product “XANXAN”. The new shelf design carries various elements on strings. The strings are stretched between two round wooden poles on both sides. The tension in the strings is adjusted the way you adjust the strings of a musical instrument like a guitar or a lute, and that is how you gain stability.
The studio’ aim from this unconventional shelf design was “to reduce its cost and environmental impact”. The Xanxan Shelf won the 2016 Bronze A’ Design Award for Furniture, Decorative Items, and Homeware Design.
