Butterfly Aviary | 3deluxe

Designers that focus on parametric research today have an astonishing large inventory of materials and algorithms to be applied in the design process. One particular project that stood out recently was the newly created artwork displayed in the creation of the Butterfly Aviary by 3deluxe. German design studio 3deluxe has inaugurated their pavilion within a 2.5-hectare Landscape Park. The new park is situated at Noor Island which located in the middle of UAE’s Sharjah. The Butterfly Pavilion is designed to interface with several other theme pavilions located on the island. The pavilion occupies a space of 230 m² with The Butterfly Aviary located in the center of the pavilion shaded by its defining golden roof. The elaborate roof is basically a shell structure, formed by over 4,000 golden aluminum leaves serving as structural modules. Designers faced a challenge that is to consider giving the generated pavilion the same special identity of the tropical island. That has been achieved by using non-repeated traditional Arabian ornaments on the golden roof, providing a minimal barrier between inside and outside. Defined by the golden roof, the inside house is a rainforest biotope, populated with a great number of butterfly species. The biosphere’s steel structure cladded with an all-glass façade. Also, we can notice here that the pavilion reflects the 3deluxe design principles of “Multilayered Atmospheres” actually d sustainability that appears clearly in the overlaying of moods that blends into one simple spatial experience.
