Casa O Cantagua’s Design Concept
“The Boomerang House” is a breathtaking architectural marvel, providing a unique experience through its undulating and resilient nature that marries natural beauty with sculptural and functional design. Well-positioned within, the house has a suspended bridge on the concrete wall to invite guests into the Casa O Cantagua and immediately engulf them in the innovative design. An open central void is provided at the heart of the house, acting as an effective axis for circulation and a point of tranquility that frames the breathtaking view of the horizon at sea from the main entrance.
This project includes an intelligently devised layout: one wing with children’s and guest bedrooms, another wing with common areas for the living room, dining room, and kitchen, and at a different level, a more private space for the main bedroom and sitting area. With this design, wide distribution and fluid circulation would provide comfortable conditions for an acceptable standard of living. The home is carefully sited to offer ocean views from many windows while creating a secluded spot for quiet contemplation while vacationing.
Worth mentioning is the materiality of the house. On the one hand, specially made steel beams were produced for the curves required by the project, while on the other, the structure was completed with reinforced concrete slabs. It evokes the impression of a boomerang that seems to be thrown toward the sea but returns to its starting position to rest and finally appreciate a sunset. At the same time, the materials provide solidity to the structure while they promote the residence’s integration with the coastal environment in harmony. This will, therefore, perfectly balance the organic and curvilinear forms of the design with the heaviness of concrete, creating a unique aesthetic that reflects the gentle waves lapping at the coast.
On the roof level, there is yet another jewel of the house: a beautiful—-to-death terrace aligned with the horizon—what a view. From here, one can delight in breathtaking views, whether watching the sunset or stargazing at night. “The Boomerang House” is much more than just a beach residence; it’s a bold and elegant design project offering a unique way of living.
