A result of the sculptor Janne Kyttanen‘s testing and experimenting with virtual reality and 3D printing was his ‘Metsidian‘: a metallic dynamic sculpture combining two divergent materials. A blurred visual that exists at the intersection of a sculpture and a piece of furniture. A piece that He created under this statement in mind ”if we’re able to use explosion welding to join materials that wouldn’t naturally fuse together – what would happen if we could control this force digitally? what kind of hybrid matter could we create?” A question of how the impossible can become a reality. The piece begins as a burned molten volcanic shape that transforms into a neat fluid metal mesh, creating a merge of everyday functions with fictional realities. A combination of natural forms with geometric ones is a theme to his work, it shows clearly in the Sedona Table which is a reflection of the unique shapes of Sedona red rocks. His work is an infusion of the contradicting realities, virtual and actual realities, a harmonious union indeed. Exhibited at Design Miami as part of the Gallery ALL are his eight beautifully made furniture/sculptures. Along with Metsidian is Sedona Table, Macedonia Tray, Avoid Stool, Avoid Chandelier, and many more.
