+20,000 Architectural Images to be downloaded from Columbia GSAPP Online Catalogue

Columbia University’s Visual Resources Collection and Avery Library has completed the second phase of a two-year project with non-profit Artstor; publishing a total of 20,000 architectural images of 20th-century architectural projects on its digital library.

Completing their digital collection, Avery/GSAPP Architectural Plans & Sections Collection, the Visual Resources Collection (VRC) at Columbia University’s Graduate School of Architecture and Planning has a second batch of 10,000 images to their digital library. The collaborative project was carried out by Columbia University’s Avery Architectural and Fine Arts Library (the largest architecture library in the world) and New York-based non-profit Artstor to gather images of architectural drawings, diagrams, and photographs available to students through Artstor’s database.

The collection was compiled by three student curators within VRC and a team of over 25 Columbia GSAPP students, and the first slew of 10,000 images was released earlier this year in March while the initiative had started in the summer of 2014.

Now and after the completion of the second phase, the library collection now contains 20,000 projects from 60 countries. The collection also includes nearly 100 projects by Le Corbusier, another 100 in South America and over 125 projects in Japan.
