Renowned Chinese contemporary artist Ai Weiwei has recreated his stunning Forever Bicycles installation in conjunction with Scotiabank Nuit Blanche. Situated in the center of Nathan Phillips Square, Toronto. The installation was made from 3,000 bicycles (compared to the 760 in the original) joined together to make a labyrinthine sculpture and measured a fairly enormous 100 feet long.
Judging by its reception it’s still as stunning now as it was in January too, in a fine demonstration of how some artworks translate perfectly to different contexts and maintain a sense of spectacle in spite of their repetition. The piece will be on show through to 27 October, 2013, so if you’re in Toronto make sure you head down.
