HKS has designed the new Texas Rangers stadium, which is set to open by 2020 in Arlington. The new stadium will host high school and college sporting events as well as becoming home to professional and international games. Countries have been competing for years to build iconic stadiums designed to host major sports events that are forever printed in the memory of nations.
The baseball park which broke ground in September 2017, is currently under construction. When completed, it will become one of the primary destinations in Texas Live! entertainment district.
How Much is The New Texas Rangers Stadium?
Discussing the design of the $1.1 billion Texas Rangers Stadium, executive vice president of HKS and principal designer of the project, Bryan Trubey said,“… It carries its own rich identity based on a combination of tradition, heritage, character, and ambition that will ultimately represent itself as the premier destination in North Texas. We are delighted to be part of this exciting new development that will impact not only the Texas Rangers and their fans, but the city of Arlington and the entire region for many years to come.”

Does Texas Rangers Stadium Have a Roof?
HKS has introduced numerous climate-controlling measures, taking into consideration the hot climate of Texas. They have included a massive retractable roof, to the stadium, which would open and close according to the weather. When open, the baffles and shields in the roof will also protect the players from direct sunlight.
“The ability to control climate is a primary factor for us,” said Rob Matwick, the Rangers executive vice president of business operations. “It is challenging to enjoy a game when you deal with some of the conditions (in the current Globe Life Park). We want to address that issue for fans and players forever. From a design standpoint, I think that is number one.”
In addition to the retractable roof, wider seats and varied front-row seating designs promise to enhance the comfort of the spectators while watching the games. Also, two concourse rings were included in the design of the stadium to facilitate circulation. Then, to avoid obstruction of views, restrooms and concession stands are receded from the seating bowl.
Grounding the Texas Rangers stadium to its home state and paying tribute to the old Globe Life Park, HKS has designed the north wall, facing a plaza and featuring a mixture of 18 granite, brick, and Texas limestone arches. These arches are filled with curtain walls in between.
People will be able to walk on the main concourse—the corridor underneath the arches, and enjoy a view of the plaza on one side and the game on the other. However, the current structure, which has been the Texas Rangers stadium since 1994, will not be demolished to accommodate the new structure. Gatwick revealed that they are currently considering ideas to retrofit the old venue.
“Globe Life Park has elements of other ballparks,” Matwick said. “That is great and certainly a salute to other ballparks, but we have reached a different stage in our history in that this building will be unique and unique to the Rangers and represent the Rangers going forward.”
