IMI International Management Institute Kolkata Abin Design Studio
The IMI International Management Institute by Abin Design Studio is located in Kolkata, West Bengal, India. Consisting of 11,000 square meters this unique building is the first of its kind to be built in India with its colored façade and unmistakable identity. As an institute it has achieved international standards not only by providing state of the art facilities but also by having an architectural expression which represents that.
Colored laminate with Vanceva PVB glass makes up the bold and dramatic focus façade and was inspired by the various states and ever changing colors of the sky and nature. This dynamic element follows no repetitive pattern and is symbolic of the unpredictable nature of the sky as well as the vibrancy of today’s youth. Behind this exciting exterior are state of the art facilities and smart classrooms designed to allow for the worldwide exchange of knowledge.
Due to the site constraints and dictated linear planning, special efforts were made to create non-monotonous spaces which did not follow the expected linear pattern. In order to keep an interesting and dynamic interior, circulation spaces and spill out zones were designed around and along the curved glass façade. Emphasis on creating interaction points was also a significant aspect to the design that Abin Design Studio focused on in the hopes it would encourage the exchange of knowledge and ideas at all levels. To finish off the innovative institution an integrated plaza with a water body has been designed to introduce a comfortable micro-climate.
