Paris has just gotten perkier with its new multicolored outdoor basketball court in the 9th arrondissement. The eye-popping court is the handy work of French fashion brands Pigalle, Ill Studio, and Nike. A vibrant palette of blue, violet, pink, and orange was used to color the rubber ground and the walls surrounding the court, while white and gray were used for the markings and court lines. The court is surrounded by apartment buildings from three sides, and it is separated from the street, on the fourth side, by a fence of mesh panels colored in blue.
The striking colors of the 9th arrondissement court go along with Pigalle and NikeLab’s 90s basketball-themed collection. “Through this new court, we wish to explore the relationship between sport, art and culture and its emergence as a powerful socio-cultural indicator of a period in time,” states Ill Studio.
“We aim to establish visual parallels between the past, present and future of modernism from the ‘avant-garde’ era of the beginning of the 20th century, to the ‘open source’ times we live in today, and our interpretation of the future aesthetics of basketball and sport in general.”
