Nansheng Center is located in Yongjia village, which is in Wenzhou, close to the main road that directly leads to downtown from the village core. The tower offers linkages to an established transportation network and covers 43,000 square meters with a structural height of more than 140 meters. Nansheng Center has been under construction for only last month, and already, it has become the newest landmark of Yongjia village.
The city’s skyline surrounding Nansheng Center extends from East towards the west. The green parks are placed on the east side for low-rise residential buildings and retail spaces to form a friendly water-frontage space. The high-rise and the office tower of Nansheng Centre are located in the southeastern quadrant and serve as a prominent gateway. Driving through the hills south of the site in Wenzhou, the mountain-shaped Nansheng Center skyscraper appears suddenly with the last turn. This layered building form of the architecture demonstrates the contextual reactions to nature.
The overall form of Nansheng Center is several box volumes that dominate in size and are gradually reduced upwards and superimposed on each other as mountain rocks. The thickness of curtain wall mullions also appears in these volumes, which increases the vertical visual continuity and enriches the facade layout. Opaque exterior glass panels with clear frames are fitted between the rock volumes from the ground floor to the roof to create the impression that a wall collapses within the mountain-like building when viewed from afar. Besides, on Level 26 of the building, an open-air sharing area is located for citizens to appreciate the nearby hills and the Naxi River while on their tea breaks.
Nansheng Center’s Design Concept
The ground floor of Nansheng Center is definitely on the street side, thus providing an optimum commercial shopfront area for entrant retail shops. The second and third floors contain vast, spacious halls that will accommodate large restaurants in the future and a canteen. The company considers any floor above a fourth to be suitable for locating office spaces.
Beyond it, access on the right to a small riverside pocket park further enlivens the site at the south side of the entrance hall. This park adopted its frontage as a green entrance plaza; the crowds here are diffused during rush hours, yet it creates a shared public space where the park’s inhabitants spend their leisure time once their working day is done.
The principles of energy-saving and the use of green energy are designed in this area of Nansheng Center. Our new local plants are also helpful for increasing greenery and because it is easier to maintain plants that are locally grown. It also incorporates the use of permeable pavement to manage the heat-island situation, improve thermal efficacy, and thus bring down air conditioning consumption.
What is more, Nansheng Center does not only provide the city with a new iconic building; it is also designed as a comfortable place to work, with retail and leisure facilities integrated into the local environment. Nansheng Center would be able to respond to the multi-faceted needs of the community, serve as a template, and propel the development of Yongjia village in an urbanized direction.
