This submission for a New Taipei Art Museum in Taipei, Taiwan, by James Law is an examination of the three states of matter and how they influence the built environment. Winning an Honourable Mention behind three ‘place’ winners, the planned building is a municipal structure for the exhibition and expression of art.
And the foundation of the idea behind the project is the creation of an architecture which holds its own- is an art form in and of its self. The spaces are unique and flexible, promoting movement and interaction amongst visitors and art forms.
It seems important to note what is defined by the three states of matter. Solid is the state in which matter maintains a fixed volume and form. Liquid implies a fixed volume but a variable form. Gas is a sort of a free-for-all: the volume and form are variable.
