Apple’s recent release of its mobile operating system, iOS 12, has created a lot of buzz worldwide. However, the architectural society is rather excited about the new feature released by Morpholio Trace and Shapr3D. The two players in the architectural software world have collaborated to create “Drag ‘n’ Fly”—a new workflow for iOS 12. The new feature will allow users to integrate live 3D models in their Trace sketches and to create infinite views. It automatically generates perspective grids for the users to draw over.
This will upgrade your workflow from downloading 3D models and textures for architectural rendering – Using the new universal 3D file type USDZ and Apple‘s Drag and Drop, the new feature promises to bridge the gap between sketching and 3D modeling on the iPad Pro. Sharpr3D models can be exported to Trace via the OBJ export, making the transition even smoother.
Drag’n’Fly: 3D Models out of Sketches
Drag’n’Fly is designed to make the existing process of exporting one view of a 3D model after another to sketch over much easier. It is intended to offer architects the possibility to navigate around 3D models, create infinite views, and draw over them. It also allows designers to zoom in on certain details or to create a narrative.
“The iPad Pro has now become as powerful as our computers and has made it effortless to work between apps. This opened up the gateway for Shapr3D and Morpholio Trace to rethink the design workflow, finally fusing together sketching and 3D modeling,” says Morpholio Co-Founder, Anna Kenoff.
Designers can use the new feature to build 3D models—simple or elaborate—on Sharpr3D and then export them into Morpholio Trace. When the model is imported, vanishing points are automatically created by Trace, and perspective guides are drawn for each view. Designers can use brushes, colors, and other features to turn the sketch into an elaborate drawing. Moreover, they can create an animated storyline for their model by tapping between views, as they progress through the scheme.
Explaining the reason behind the collaboration with Sharpr3D, Morpholio Co-Founder Mark Collins said: “Having created Morpholio primarily for architects, by architects, we feel Shapr3D, an impressive and important software, should be brought into focus for a broader range of disciplines – architecture, industrial design, and engineering.”
“We’ve been called ‘the app that changed the iPad story from TOY to TOOL,’ and we see the same thing with Morpholio Trace. It is a unique sketching software that puts design first and is exactly what our users need to advance their work and collaborate around 3D modeling,” said Shapr3D Co-Founder, Istvan Csanady.
