Rapid Type is a mobile sales platform that combines the best of prefabricated building construction and the ever-growing food truck movement. Designed by OTAplus, it offers something that is aesthetically pleasing, easy to assemble and also fully mobile.
From the first prototype in 2010, the project became experimental with a design approach, trying to combine prefabrication, with mobile food trucks. In constructing the design the main material used is a composite aluminum known as Alpolic.
Testing the capabilities of the material, a co-teach design group was derived with the sole purpose of pushing the material to its very limit, taking into account the limitations of current day CNC technology.
The aim in doing so is to bridge the gap between prefabricated building and food truck designs, which proves a success with the current prototype to date.
