RIBA Reveals 22 Projects Shortlisted for its 2022 East Awards

Twenty-two buildings have been shortlisted for the RIBA East 2022 Awards, ranging from a small copper-clad home expansion in Cambridge to a new youth and engagement space at the Wolsey Theatre in Ipswich. Early in May, the winners will be announced. A total of 22 projects from the East of England will be considered for a RIBA Regional Award, out of a total of 48 entries.

“Given the challenges of the past two years, we were thrilled to see a significant number of entries to the regional awards this year. The shortlisted schemes across the region demonstrate the determination and design skill of all the practices involved, on projects large and small and across all sectors. They also show the enormous value that architects bring to these projects and how their expertise can be used to create better spaces for people to live, work, and experience.”

—Said RIBA East Regional Director, Louise Todd

A regional jury will evaluate all of the shortlisted ideas, with the winners being announced later this spring. In acknowledgment of their architectural quality, Regional Award winners will be evaluated for a prestigious RIBA National Award, the results of which will be revealed in the summer. Moreover, from the RIBA National Award-winning projects, a shortlist for the RIBA Stirling Prize for the greatest building of the year will be selected, and the Stirling Prize winner will be announced in October.

The Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA) has been honoring exceptional architecture for almost 180 years. Our medals and awards are recognized around the world as a symbol of distinction, honoring the best architecture, architects, research, and students.
