Sony World Photography Awards Reveals Winning Architectural Photographs for 2017

Sony World Photography Awards has revealed the winning photographs from the architectural category of their 2017 Open Category Awards program. The first prize winner is British photographer Tim Cornbill, for his picture “Oculus”, which shows the façade of a large concrete building by the River Spree in Berlin.

“As an architect, I’m passionate about capturing buildings, and I’m always on the lookout for photogenic designs,” says Cornbill. “I was really struck by the sheer scale of this façade and the visual impact of the circle, which I hope I’ve been able to convey in this everyday street scene.”

The open photography competition is open to anyone. It includes 10 categories: architecture, culture, still life, motion, portraits, nature, travel, wildlife, enhanced, and street photography. The winners of the open competition are granted $5,000 and Sony Digital Imaging equipment. The 2018 edition of the Sony World Photography Awards will be starting in June 2017.
