The Arched Mercedes-Benz Sculpture|Gerry Judah

The Arched Mercedes

The race tracks and cars we play with as children are taken to a whole new level. Each year British designer Gerry Judah is chosen to construct a centerpiece at the Goodwood house Sussex, UK for the Goodwood Festival of Speed. For 2014 Judah’s method was to engage with the house by creating a race track arching from the roof of the house and to the front lawn.

The Goodwood house helps to support the Mercedes-Benz sculpture weighing 160 tons and measures 90 meters in length. The concept of the track is very simple; it is a single line that splits into two roads as if the two race cars are passing each other. The race cars represent the Mercedes’ W04 Formula 1 car and the ancient 1934 Mercedes-Benz W25 racing car this is to elaborate on the history of the cars, the history of the Goodwood and the history of Mercedes.
