The Moscow Fashion Palace, designed by AmniosyA + Lash-Up, has won Honourable Mention in the recent Arquitectum Competition. Taking inspiration and cues from fashion, dance(rs), art, and Russian culture and history, its provocative form would be a towering palatial setting for the exhibition of top names in the fashion world.
Composed as skin and bones, the exterior form and surface are modeled from a 2D draped sheet. Beneath this ‘sheet’ are almost fish-like ‘bones’ of structure. These rely upon their materiality (which is… white) and more so, on their geometry to provide a rigid form. The structure of the tower itself consists of two intertwining space frames. Now this is very cool. The structure, all trussed and trianglified, does not fill out the whole or even a consistent portion of the building. Instead it climbs up through the form, providing support where needed.
