The Incubatrix

Emerging from the global trend of vertical farm towers, The Incubatrix is a vertical farming production and research center that serves as an experiment in the city of Amman – Jordan. The project idea came to our notice in light of the present crisis in the agricultural and water sectors in Jordan. This project incorporates the technology of hydroponics to produce fresh organic produce year-round in the heart of the city. It acts as a lung in dense urban centers to rejuvenate the area.

Branching from the concept that man and nature should become whole again, The Incubatrix encourages people to explore the new farming technologies by providing planting workshops, educational and research facilities, a restaurant, a market, a recycling center and of course a walk-through in the production tower to introduce the concept of hydroponics.

The rooftops of the research and educational centers are publicly accessible and serve as a natural public space for the surrounding neighborhood. Some areas are kept for conventional farming purposes and farming workshops while other areas can be used for recreational outdoor activities.

Should it succeed, the vertical farm tower – a fully functioning entity by itself – would be used as a plug-in in different urban centers in Jordan to form The Incubatrix vertical farm network across the city. The network across Amman attempts to solve the current problem of the agricultural sector of Jordan which is failing to accommodate the needs of the population.

The Vertical Farming Tower:

The vertical farm tower is a flexible structure in terms of height and size and it allows for future expansions or alterations to adapt to potential limitations of different sources. It is an integrated system of hydroponic farming and renewable energy to maximize productivity and ensure environmental sustainability.

The Market:

The local market is divided into two parts: The outdoor market and the indoor market. The outdoor market is mainly used in the warm seasons to sell the organic produce of the farm and it hosts the different activities associated. The indoor market is a year-round market for organic fruits and vegetables and other farm products like flowers and decorative plants.

The Organic Restaurant:

The restaurant is located in the recreational mass that appears to be floating on the highest point of the site. It is directly connected to the bridge that leads to the sky-garden. The plaza underneath is a continuation of the natural space the rooftops provide and it’s a place for students and people to sit, relax, and enjoy the natural setting and the view of Al-Akhdar neighborhood.
