The L Tower | Daniel Libeskind

Daniel Libeskind makes the curve. This is the ‘L Tower’, a 57-story condo tower located in Toronto, Canada. And many call it knife-shaped– truth be told, I see it but I don’t agree with it. From a chef’s point of view, this is a bad knife. Just think, when you rock through something- you’re gonna be good for that curve but then you’re going to hit that flat part and just bruise whatever it is you’re cutting. No good. But the tower in absentia of knife, looks pretty good.

The building, when it is complete, will house some 600 new condos, a fitness centre, spa, indoor pool, and underground parking. It is also shooting for LEED Gold rating. The efforts towards this sustainability standard will reduce the tower’s energy and water usage by 30% and dramatically improve air quality. One of the developers, Sam Criagnano, has been quoted, saying ‘L-Tower is an elite building, so we’re trying to strive for that LEED certification’

“L Tower” in progress.

At this very time, ‘L Tower’ appears fairly normal, with most of the main rise structurally completed and the building’s iconic blue glass installed on the lower floors, but workers are in the process of pouring concrete for the upper floors. With these efforts, the ‘knife curve’ is taking shaping, giving the tower a unique visage on the skyline.
