Toyota concept I new car definitely, got the looks, with its perfect pod form and the quite dazzling design. However, that is not all there is to the car; not even a fraction. Toyota Concept I car can, actually, be your new best friend. The Toyota concept I car, which was revealed at Consumer Electronics Show (CES) 2017 in Las Vegas, represents Toyota’s vision for the future of vehicles which is not typically about automation-related technologies, but the personal experience of the car user. Bob Carter, Toyota’s senior vice president of automotive operations, says that: “We think the future is a vehicle that can engage with people in return,” and that will be the job of the Artificial intelligence assistant, Yui.
Yui communicates with the driver through sound and light. “She” monitors the driver’s reactions in different road conditions in order to offer automated driving support when needed, and so this is the kind of system that develops with time. Yui greets you with a “Hello” on the door and warns you about the turns and hazards through messages on the rear while communicating with other car drivers on the front. In this Toyota concept I car, Toyota tackles the issue of automation safety, by trying to keep the driver attentive while the car is in the automated driving mode in case of emergencies that require personal intervention. It does so by having Yui converse with the drivers, keeping them well awake to ensure a safe automated driving experience. Toyota Research Institute head, Gill Pratt, says about the new car: “It has the potential to become more than a helpful friend, [It could be] the kind of friend who looks out for you.” However, he states that self-driving cars still have a long way to go, given the public’s absolute intolerance to machine defects. Toyota’s concept car is not meant for mass production and uses on the road; it is, simply, a showcase of the company’s vision for future vehicles which promotes safety and personal engagement.
