This is a great attention getter. Attention getter not because of its inherent visual coolness, but because what this keyboard+ created by Sang Un Jeon says about the increasingly vast virtual world that is the internet.
This kyeboard+ titled ‘Virtual City’ is a corporeal visualization of the current topography of the internet. This topography is formed by the major websites (it’s surprising to see how few websites so many of us visit so much) which guide the visitation trends of the web’s billions of users. The buildings are 3d printed and fixed to a clean white keyboard, with the buildings’ heights corresponding to the estimated unique monthly visitors of the websites they represent. With 88 million visitors, ebay is represented by New York’s Grand Central Terminal; Twitter at 250 million is the new museum in Manhattan; 750 million gets Facebook the Empire State Building; Wikipedia, the Gherkin, at 350 million; and the grand puba, Google gets the World Trade Centre with 800 million.
