Wearable Printed Forms | Nervous Systems

Kinematics by nervous systems is a software tool that creates complex foldable forms, which can later be printed using a 3D printer. The process of using Kinematics is to turn any 3D model into a flexible structure.

The objects produced are wearable due to the computational techniques used, which include body physics. This enables large objects to be simulated by intricate patterns, making them wearable due to how the patterns adapt to the form of the human body.

Even though each element is stiff, due to the way each is combined to the next, gives them a cloth like behavior. The printed objects also require no assembly, as the hinge mechanisms are printed in place. With the folding process that kinematics have adopt, this means that objects larger than the printer are printable, as it would be printed in its compressed form.

Taking the idea of creating wearable ornaments, a jewelry collection was released, along with a free app. With the app the users had the freedom to experiment and generate their own unique designs from the collection, which they can print out if they have access to a desktop 3D printer.
